Windsor Castle bandstand

There was an international flavour added to the visit of the South London Fellowship Band when they accepted an invitation to visit Windsor and perform two one hour concerts in the Windsor Castle bandstand, situated  just a hundred meters or so from the private residence of Her Majesty, The Queen.

The organizer’s of the visit estimated that over fifteen hundred people either stopped to listen and take photos, many of them  tourists from overseas, before continuing to view the attractions.

Darrell Scholes, the band’s Musical Director, was intent on choosing music  that would be appealing to the listeners, bright, snappy marches and selections, interspersed with meditations on well known hymns. Soloists were on top form,  Alan Moyse (cornet), Craig Finch (flugel horn) and Adrian Horwood (euphonium) with the trombone ensemble all contributing excellent presentations.

An ideal day to present two fine brass band programs, with the sun beaming down and not a cloud in the sky.

For many of the bandsmen this visit would probably be the first occasion when they would find themselves performing in such a setting – memorable and very special.
