2026 Easter Meditation at Royal Tunbridge Wells
“From the Cross to the Empty Tomb”

Monday evening’s Easter Meditation proved to be both inspirational and challenging, leading us thoughtfully through the events of Holy Week.
From the opening pre-meeting selection, “Burdens Are Lifted” (Arr: Kane) & “Fewster” (Arr: Kane), a spirit of quiet reflection was established. The programme then unfolded through Scripture, music, and song, tracing Christ’s journey from the foretelling of the cross to the joy of the resurrection.
Highlights included the Male Voice Chorus’ meaningful ministry in “When Jesus Looked O’er Galilee” and “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross” alongside the band’s contributions, particularly “The Challenge of the Cross” (Goffin) and the reflective “I Can Think of Him” (Webb Arr: Kane) The congregational singing was strong and heartfelt throughout, with “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” and “Thine Is the Glory” providing moments of both reverence and triumph.
A deep sense of stillness marked The Silence of the Tomb, before the glorious proclamation of the resurrection lifted hearts in renewed hope as we reflected on the promises of God, and a Spirit filled silence descended on those who had gathered as the band presented two much loved musical items – the male voice “Rock of Ages” and the band item “God so loved the world” (Stainer)

The evening concluded with a stirring presentation of “Christ Is Risen” (Manners) and the reminder from Romans that we are called to live in the power of Christ’s risen life.
This meditation not only prepared us for Easter but challenged us to respond afresh to the message of the cross and the empty tomb.
We were extremely grateful to Steve Hanover for stepping into the bandmasters role for the evening, whilst Derick Kane our resident conductor was enjoying a much deserved vacation.
